Woodland Residence, Stowe, VT. 2016

This residence is nestled on the edge of a  wooded hillside in the Green Mountains. The master plan included a new arrival and parking court, a main entrance sequence and a bedroom terrace tucked into the slope. The surrounding forest was selectively thinned and managed to allow for more light and to encourage the growth of native herbaceous woodland plants. A wide bluestone walkway with slate dry laid walls links the crushed stone parking court to the front entrance. Grass steps connect the new entrance to the lawn. The bedroom terrace is defined by a curvilinear wall which steps with the existing grade. The terrace surface will be a rich pattern of paving and groundcovers. Shade loving ferns wrap the wall and weave through the landscape. A Zen Courtyard is in progress.
